I build software and hardware for a living and for fun — backend systems, embedded electronics, the occasional robot that doesn’t work right the first time — and that’s the lens this site runs on: does it actually work, does it hold up under real conditions, and is the claim being made about it true, exaggerated, or invented.

That lens gets pointed at AI more than anything else right now, because AI is where the gap between marketing and reality has gotten the widest. Here you’ll find writing that takes AI seriously as a technology — the actual architecture, the actual limitations, the actual failure modes — while staying openly skeptical of the narrative built around it. No “AI will replace X within a year” predictions without receipts, no treating a chatbot transcript as evidence of anything, no pretending a demo video is a product.

Alongside that: broader tech commentary, hardware and electronics projects, software engineering notes, and the occasional deep dive into a system that’s more interesting once you take it apart. If you want hype, there’s no shortage of it elsewhere. If you want someone asking “wait, does this actually do what they say it does” — you’re in the right place.un!

We’re in the middle of the biggest sales pitch in tech history, and most of it doesn’t survive contact with an actual engineering problem. infinitenine is a site about technology written from the workbench, not the boardroom.
